Article “PVC Windows – A contributing Factor to Sustainability“ published in Renovieren + Energiesparen

Modern RAL certified PVC windows are rightfully called sustainable construction products: They are durable, produced from sustainably sourced raw materials, support energy-saving and can be recycled.

Recently EPPA associated member “RAL Gütegemeinschaft Kunststoff-Fensterprofilsysteme” published an article on this topic in the German consumer magazine “XXL-Ratgeber: Renovieren + Energiesparen” and on the portal (both Family Home).

Since 2000, VinylPlus, the voluntary commitment to sustainable development of the European PVC industry, has been a pioneer in the Circular Economy. It has backed the European Commission’s pledging call to increase recycling of plastics by committing to recycle at least 900,000 tonnes of PVC per year into new products by 2025, a significant contribution to the overall 10 million tonnes objective set by the Commission for the plastic industry. Record-Breaking Recycling Project in Germany

In Schweinfurt a major construction project has been initiated. Until 2019 a former US colony, now owned by the municipality, will be largely dismantled and demolished. This includes 34 three-story buildings and the 13 twin houses.  In this context around 2500 old PVC window profiles will be collected and recycled mechanically. The recyclate is a valuable secondary resource and can be re-introduced into new PVC window profiles. In Germany, the collection and recycling of old windows is organized by EPPA’s member Rewindo. Rewindo and similar controlled loop mechanisms allow for the continued use of PVC, fully in line with the aims of the Circular Economy.

The complete project has been described in an article published in the BauelementeBau. It can be found below.
